Pull Them Into Your Peace
I really like this one. Last year I had my test with this one and had to learn to be calm in the face of a lot of teenage emotional storms. The calmer I got the better it got. Yet it was easier said than done and like a quote I read " I'm Irish what the feck is calm?" but I learned to be calmer than even the calm person I am on a set. And I can say Calm is a great state to be in and now I have a new metaphor to apply.

The Message of You - Judy Carter
Then it was off to Burbank to attend Comedian Judy Carter's Event to welcome her new book "The Message of You". Judy's message and book is an inspirational message of how we need to share the life messages many of us have and how we have gone from "Mess to Success".
She shared a great story from her book about a speech she gave at Long Beach VA to veterans with spinal cord injuries from iraq and Afghanistan. She introduced one young man in the audience Nick Mendez who is a paraplegic from an IED. She shared him telling her" how a doctor told him he would never walk or move his hands again and hime telling and showing her that he is almost able to give that doctor the finger now".
I recommend you check out her book and if you have a message in you it will help you share it and make a difference in other's lives.

Inspirational People - Inspirational Stories
Wanted to share this email from a chiropractor friend of my wife. He was a marathon runner when he experienced this traumatic injury. He has been struggling for years and now is going to run in a Triathlon. He is truly an inspiration and as he wrote on his FB page "Four years ago I would never had imagined my life would be like this. So be grateful for what you have. Take pleasure in the things you have. Because tomorrow it could be taken away."
Please support his run. Thanks
-- John Duffy
Hi there! I hope this email finds you well. The reason I am writing this email is because I need some help. As many of you know I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in Nov. 08. It's kinda like a stroke. Up to now it's been a long road of physical therapy. It is slowly paying off. For those of you that see me every once in a while you may think that the progress is great. But to me it is very slow. As many of you know I was very into competing in triathlons before my injury. And this March I will be participating in the Pasadena Triathlon. It will be the first time for me since the accident. It's gonna be slow bit I am going to finish. The run is going to be more of a walk. With two people holding my arms so I don't fall it's gonna take us some time to finish the 3.1 mile "run". The bike should be good. I will be on a 3 wheel recumbent bike. It's not going to be anything close to what I am used to but that's ok. The swim is in the Pasadena Aquatic Center's pool. The swim is going to take me some time but that's ok I will finish. I am very exited for this opportunity. It's going to be a fabulous day.
Now is where you come in. I am fundraising for my triathlon and I can use your assistance. Any donation, big or small will help. So if you could please donate I would be much appreciative. Many thanks for reading this and for your donations. Here is the link to donate

56 Up Documentary - Reflections on Life
Just watched "56 Up" a Michael Apted documentary that started in 1964 as Seven Up. It explores the lives of 14 kids every seven years. Makes you reflect on how lives turn out and about all the questions of life such as happiness, success, achieving or not achieving your dreams. Worth checking out. I think it would make for a good blog post examining my life since I was seven. Stay tuned...

20,000 Days and Counting
Just read "20,000 Days and Counting" and I highly recommend you check it out. It can be one of those life changing books. Pondering how many days you have lived and best case how many days you may have left to live is sobering but it makes you realize the urgency to Live Every Day as If It was Your Last.
What do you want to accomplish and what legacy do you want to leave?

Pay It Forward
Yesterday I was reading a memoir "Bend Not Break" about a 25 year old Chinese woman who was expelled from China in 1984 by the Communist because she was a writer and considered a threat to the government. She arrived in San Francisco with $75 for a plane ticket to New Mexico to attend school. The ticket price went up to $80 and she was $5 short. An American standing in line behind her hearing her predicament stepped forward and gave her $5. She described it this way: "The gesture may not have meant much to him but it meant the world to me. My first impressions of Americans - and one that endures to this day - was that they are warm giving people. The experience offered me this life lesson: "When in doubt, always err on the side of generosity."
Flash Forward to today: I was rushing and late to my daughter's Cheer Competition. When I got there I realized the entry was $7 and I had only $4. I asked the man taking tickets if there was a ATM around the HS and they said not near by. I stepped away and started to think how I could get some stranger to lend me the money so I could get in and film my daughter's performance. Just then the man taking the tickets approached me and offered me $5 to get a ticket. I told him I only needed $3 but he insisted I take the $5 and didn't want me to pay him back later. He didn't know me, He didn't know what my religion or politics were but just that I was another man, another father another human being and he acted generously. It's that ripple effect that makes a difference in life
After I purchased the ticket I approached the entrance and I heard the other ticket taker ask him if he gave me $ and he said yea and his friend said "That's cool" I approached and said, " It was indeed very cool and special and appreciated and he had made my day."
I got in just in time to film my daughter. His "small" act of generosity made my day and his act of paying it forward reminds me to do the same whenever the opportunity arises. I thanked Solomon on the way out and shares this story to pass it along...

It Takes Courage
What you have accomplished so far is only a fraction of what’s truly possible for you. You are far more powerful, capable & gifted than you allow yourself to be. The only thing separating you from your grandest vision of your life is COURAGE! If you don’t want the next 10 years to be like the last, then now is the time to do something different. Muster the courage to declare that right NOW is your turning point!

A Special Message
Below is a message I received in the New Year from a friend on Facebook. I am touched and humbled that my posts have played a positive role in at least one person's life. Wow, I came to mind before Oprah. I am blown away and look forward to that lunch. It reminds me of why I started my blog The Glass is 3/4's Full and my positive FB posts years ago so that I could share the inspiration and lessons that have changed and shaped my life. I share this to encourage others to step up and make a difference in people's lives. May this be your Best Year Ever
-- John Duffy
I answered a quick survey, and found I listed you as the person I would most like to have lunch with, my reason was you are inspirational. Not that you are not, but my response caught me off guard. I guess it is true, that your true feeling/thoughtss are those that are right on the surface. BTW, Oprah came to mind second, so you are in esteemed company. Some days when I open your 3/4s full, it just changes my mood or outlook to positiveness, and propels me to keep going forward. It has been a long road, but I am finally going to achieve my dream of working with military members who suffer from PTSD. Thank you for your encouragement, and may God continue to use you to bless others.
