Personal Ramblings - Ten Steps to Wrap Up 2009

Here is a great article from Suzanne Lyons. I took a couple of her seminars many years ago in Flash Forward. Check out her website........
http://www.suzannelyons.net/
TEN STEPS TO WRAPPING UP 2009
Give Yourself the Best Holiday Gift Ever!
1) Take a thorough serious look at your year. Go through your calendar, day timer, diary, etc. See where you are out of communication, out of touch, and out of integrity with colleagues, family and friends. Make a complete list.
2) Take your list and write up what you would need to do or say to clean things up (to be complete). I am not saying that you have to take the actions. You can take the actions if you want to, but often just the act of acknowledging what is incomplete will have it disappear.
3) Go back through your year and take note of all the projects, areas and anything from your "To Do" list that is incomplete or unfinished.
4) Take this list and write out what actions you could take to be finished or be complete. It is up to you whether or not you take the actions, but once again in order to be complete with 2009 it is important to take note of the above and acknowledge what is left unfinished.
5) Accomplishments: Now it's time to brag! I love this part. Go through your year again and this time make a list of all of your accomplishements...no matter how small you think some of them might be. All too often we focus on what's wrong, what we didn't get done or what we should have done. So now I want you to focus on everything you accomplished. Claim it! Be proud of it! Take joy and pleasure in it!
6) Acknowledgement: There are two sides to this one. Giving and receiving. Both are very important and both are missing in our culture. And it is all part of being complete. In all of 2009, what would you like to be acknowledged for. For example, "I would like to be acknowledged for sticking to my weekly exercise program." Write out a list of all the things you want to be acknowledged for and share it with a friend. Perhaps you could have a friend or family member do the exercise so you can share your lists with each other. A friend of mine, with her family, does the accomplishment and acknowledgement lists every Christmas. Wow!
7) Acknowledging others: Who do you want to acknowledge? Make a list and include the acknowledgement in your holiday cards, calls and emails. Acknowledge not only what they did, but also who they are for you and the difference they have made in your life.
8) Expectations: A friend of mine once said that "human beings are walking expectations just waiting to be unfulfilled". So that said, what about going into the holiday with your friends and family with absolutely no expectations at all! Just allow them to do what they do and be who they be and have no reaction. Just keep falling in love with them over and over again no matter what. Wouldn't that be a fun adventure to take on for the holidays?
9) Appreciation and Gratitude: There is a great quote by Melody Beattie where she says that "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." Create a list of all the wonderful things you appreciate and are grateful for. Come up with at least 50! Look at this list everyday and keep adding to it.
10) Contribution: Since this is the season for giving, the greatest gift you can give is yourself....your time, your love, your kind words, your ongoing commitment to be an example for humanity...bringing excitement, possibility, joy, love and passion to everything you do and everyone you touch!
Have the best Holiday Season ever!

Thought For Day - Today is the Best Day Ever
Have The BEST Day Ever
What do we really mean when we ask each other “how
are you doing?”
Most of the time it is a surface level comment
just to be polite.
For most of my life I have tried to maintain a
positive mental attitude.
However, from time to time I allowed myself,
like you probably do as well, to wallow around
in self pity.
Then I would despise how I felt and change my thoughts.
After changing my thoughts I soon found that my
reality would change as well.
Henry Ford, the famous American who revolutionized
automobile manufacturing said, “Thoughts are things.”
He was right. Thoughts determine the lens of how we
view and perceive the world.
And we can consciously change how and what we think.
I’ve done it.
In the past, when people asked how I was doing my
reaction was usually to give a summary of my
circumstances.
How are you doing? “Oh, pretty good.”
How are you doing? “I’ve been better.”
These were common answers to the questions. What
I found was that what I thought and then spoke
became my reality. Literally, one day I woke up
and DID NOT like my reality. So I began speaking
a desired reality into existence.
Now, when asked how I am doing, I always say, “I’m
having the BEST day ever!”
The reaction from some people is priceless. These
usually sound something like:
“Wow, I wish I was too,” or, “Gee, that’s great!”
and sometimes the brave (or just curious) will ask,
“Really? Why’s that?”
It’s one of the most frequent questions I get. How
can this be your best day ever?
I even have one client who argues with me. She says,
“I’m having a pretty good day, but it’s not the best
day I’ve ever had.” After several attempts to explain
the philosophy behind my statement, her exasperation
became so great that she just stopped asking me how
I was doing!
Have the BEST day ever!
It is NOT about the circumstances, it’s about your
mindset. Each and every one of us has circumstances
each day that range from unpleasant to really bad.
If you focused on the circumstances, then yes, that
becomes your reality.
In my book of faith and doctrine it says, “be content
in whatever circumstances in which you find yourself. . .”
I thought about that a lot and decided that I would
give it a try, and have the best day ever.
Also, I began to live in the present. It used to be
that I could not enjoy the present because of “suffering
from mistakes” of my past, and worrying about what
would happen in my future.
My conclusion is that the only day I have is today.
Now. Right now. That’s it, I can’t get back my
yesterdays and there is no promise of tomorrow. I
only have today. If that isn’t enough of a realization
for you to have the best day ever then “snap out of it!”
You see it boils down to this. This is the only day
you have. Yesterday is gone, forever, and, tomorrow
may never come. Yes, this is the best day ever!
No matter what your circumstances, IT IS THE BEST
DAY EVER!
Some always find a way to ask about bad possibilities:
“What if you lose your job?” I was out of work when
I found this one, so the door for greater opportunity
will swing open. Have the BEST day ever!
“What if a family member dies?” Then I will celebrate
their life and cherish all the memories I have.
Have the BEST day ever!
What if you die in a car crash on the way home?”
According to my book of faith and doctrine, I am
promised a new body in a beautiful place, with my
Messiah, forever. Now how can that be bad?
Have the BEST day ever!
Once you determine that you will not be emotionally
pushed back and forth by the “things that happen”
in your life, you will find that you no longer continue
to attract these negatives.
Your reality is that you will begin attracting good
things in your life.
In fact, people will become attracted to you because
of your genuine positive charge. The reverse is true
of “negative” people. Nobody enjoys their company
and most will simply try to avoid them.
Take the first step. Tell yourself that this is
the BEST day ever.
It’s ok if you don’t “feel” it or believe it yet.
Just say it. Every time you are asked “how are you
doing?” simply say “I’m having the BEST day ever!”
Your speaking it will make it your reality!
Have the BEST day ever!

Personal Ramblings - Thanks for Your Time
I received this as an email from my Cousin Sharon in Germany. I shared it with my twelve year old daughter. And she summed it up by saying "Aww Dad that is so special". It is a special story especially this holiday season and in the challenge economic times we are living through. It is a great reminder of what's really important in life......
THANKS FOR THE TIME
A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.
It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him..
Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.
"Jack, did you hear me?"
Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.
"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.
"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.
"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said
He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.
As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.
The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.
Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.
"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked
"The box is gone," he said
What box?" Mom asked.
"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.
It was gone.. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.
"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom.
It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package.. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.
Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago.. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.
"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.
Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:
"Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."
"The thing he valued most was....my time"
Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.
"I need some time to spend with my son," he said.
"Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!"
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"
Send this letter to all the people you care about, if you do so, you will certainly brighten someone's day and might change their perspective on life...for the better.
To all my family, friends and everyone I sent this to or are reading this on my blog.

Rest in Peace - Jim Rohn A Legend

I never met Jim Rohn in person but I heard him on tape and read his writings and saw him speak on videos. I also learned of him from a mentor of mine Tony Robbins. He was Tony's first personal development mentor and coach. He created a ripple in life and touched many directly and indirectly. He left a great legacy that made the world better for his being here. His spirit and teachings live on in our hearts and our lives.......
John Duffy
"I truly believe Jim Rohn is an extraordinary human being whose philosophy can enhance the quality of life for anyone who exposes themselves to it. He certainly had a positive impact on me at a time in my life when I was first forming the philosophies that guide me today."
- Anthony Robbins -
Author of 'Unlimited Power'
"Jim Rohn is one of the most articulate, powerful,thought-provoking speakers I've ever seen. His unique delivery and style puts him head and shoulders above the rest."
- Harvey Mackay -
Author of 'Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive'
"I've been a student of Jim Rohn since 1972. He was then and still is one of the most profound thinkers and mind expanding individuals I've ever had a chance to listen to."
